SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Theme: Loco is a themed magazine. For every issue that we release there is a theme which functions as a guiding principle to tie all of the content together. The theme applies to all of the writing as well as the art, photography, and video elements that are featured in the issue.
This month our theme is Stories We Tell. Although contributors should use the theme for inspiration we want to see you interpret it in your own way. Stories are unique in their content as well as the way that they are told. It is not only interesting to think about some of your most heartwarming, weird or unbelievable stories, but what they mean and why we tell them. Thinking along the lines of hometown legends, day in the life documentaries, awkward moments, memories, dreams and even deja vu. Have something you are dying to share? We want to hear about it!
We are open to interpretation. Be creative, have fun, & send us your ideas! All submissions are welcome from writers, artists, graphic designers, videographers and photographers.
Writers: Loco Magazine is an electronic publication so space is unlimited. We don’t want to hear about pointless or long-winded accounts; we want to read your stories. Features should top out around 2500 words. Features can be in the form of fiction or non-fiction. Use first person. Have a strong voice and be creative. Shortest piece should stay around 1200 words. Interviews and specific section pieces should be kept around 500 words. Our current sections include; features, lifestyle, entertainment, travel, and listomania. We will accept all submissions from all undergraduate and graduate students.
Design: For our designers we look for students who have experience in Adobe In Design, Illustrator and any other designing programs. We are looking for banners, graphics and logos for our main site as well as our social media sites.
Photographers: We are looking for photographers who have experience with PhotoShop. Photographs can be submitted to be used in an existing article or they can be featured as a photo set. When submitting photographs please be sure to include a very brief caption of the images.
Videographers: Additionally this year we will be accepting video projects. The video will be uploaded through Vimeo to the Loco Magazine webpage.
Please have articles ready to submit as early as possible. Also include a short biography to be published under your article. If you have images that you would like to accompany the article, please submit them at the same time you submit your writing. If you do not have images, make a note so we can provide them. Keep in mind, when you submit to Loco Mag you retain the rights to your article to be published elsewhere.
