Public transportation is both a blessing and a curse. We’ve all been stuck on those never-ending train rides, sat through stop after stop on bus rides next to weird strangers, and waited around for hours at the train stations. Here are some of our favorite tunes to listen to while aboard SEPTA’s finest. Happy traveling.

  • “Madness” by Muse
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Muse, but this new hit  is the best yet. It has such a great, steady beat that will keep you pumped up before you get into the city.”- Sammy
  • “Take A Walk” by Passion Pit
“This song just makes me super excited to explore new things!”- Lauren
  • “Wayfaring Stranger” by Ed Sheeran
“This old American folk song has been covered by many artists from Johnny Cash to Jack White, but most recently by up and coming Brit Ed Sheeran.  Not only is this song a suitable travel song, but the all acoustic track is relaxing enough to settle in for a long trip next to a perfect stranger.”- Amanda
  • “Six Weeks” by Of Monsters & Men
“Any song by Of Monsters & Men is fantastic, but “Six Weeks” is one of my favorites. It puts a smile on my face and gets me geared up for new adventures!” – Bri
  • “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Traps
“I hear this song and without fail imagine myself in the perfect movie scene where I watch the city pass from a train window. The song has an incredible progression that just lends itself to be a fantastic travel song. This is one of those songs I can never get enough of.” –Becky
  • “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” by Train
“This song immediately came to mind for this list because I HATE using public transportation. But since it’s a necessary evil, I deal with it by imagining this song is giving me 50 ways to say goodbye to public transportation.” – Nicole
  • “In the City” by Now, Now
“I love listening to Now, Now’s (formerly Now, Now Every Children) In the City EP whenever I take the train into Philly, for obvious reasons. Cacie Dalager has a really calming voice.”- Danielle
  • “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons
“I’ve been listening to this on overdrive. I don’t know why exactly, but it’s even more entertaining to listen to on the go.” – Megan
  • “What You Waiting For?” by Gwen Stefani
“This song is great when you’re running to catch the last Broad Street Line subway at the City Hall free transfer at 12:30am; and for the glance-dodging session that ensues with the odd passengers you share a car with at that hour.”- Morgan
  • “Something Ugly” by Screaming Females
“Sometimes you listen to music to relax. Other times you want a song that makes you feel like you could punch a dragon in the face. This is the second one.”- Michael
