On February 26, Netflix unleashed upon the world the highly anticipated (at least for me) sequel to Full House, otherwise known as Fuller House. And for those of you who have been living under a rock for the past 30 years, Fuller House was an 80s-90s family sitcom that told the story of an extended family and their many extensive issues. And while the original Full House was entertaining and pleasant, the new 13-episode installment left me disappointed and dissatisfied.

Full House was a 90’s sitcom filled with both heart and laughter – it made you want to be  part of the Tanner family. It starred Bob Saget as the patriarch Danny Tanner, who is struggling to raise his 3 little girls after his wife dies. Along for the journey are his college friend Joey, played by David Coulier, and his brother-in-law, the notorious Uncle Jesse, played by John Stamos. The show was full of hilarious hijinks, tear-jerking trials, and moral messages, as well as a plethora of guest stars, quotable one liners, and the Olsen twins before they were famous, making it one of the best and most memorable TV series of its era.

For Fuller House, on the other hand, the laughs didn’t come naturally. The series felt as insincere as an apology from Donald Trump. Speaking of Trump and the many stigmas surrounding him, that leads me to the references seemed dated no matter how hard they tried to revamp them. But the comedy wasn’t the only thing they tried revamping. The characters on the show were so one dimensional and reliant on their Full House backstory, and I would have no problem with that if there was a substantial plot to all this madness. Yet it gets bogged down in all this, leaving viewers wondering “What ever happened to the predictability?” Because it certainly has left the show.
At the end of the day though, no matter how much I complain about Fuller House and its abhorrent attempt at trying to revive the legacy of its much better predecessor, I have to admit it was fun to watch all my favorite characters all grown up. With that nostalgic piece of information said, Fuller House falls flat, and it’s sad to say this, but I’m hoping it doesn’t get back up. At least I’ll always have the reruns.
