As I’m sitting down to write this, I’m so genuinely done. There is not an ounce of strength left in my body – my bones feel weary, the bags under my eyes growing ever more. I am so, so tired, and I don’t know what to do. Why am I, as a 21, almost 22 year old, so exhausted?
Well, let’s take inventory. I’ve got six classes, two jobs, one internship, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Every one of my six classes assigns on average four hours of homework and projects to do in between each class, with some classes happening multiple times a week. Let’s break it down even more, simply because I’m petty.
First off, Spanish. That’s three times a week. In between each class I have around two hours of homework. In total, that’s eight hours a week including the weekend.
Next, Media Studies. That’s once a week, but it’s a seminar, and we all know those ones are long. For this, I get around six hours of work a week with all the reading I need to do.
Then, Horror Film and Society. That’s twice a week; with essay work, response posts, and films to watch. That’s about four hours a week.
After that, there’s Senior Seminar – aka my thesis class. That’s five hours minimum, with class once a week.
Running out of steam here, but now there’s my Internship in Communications class. While online, we typically have to do about one hour of class work each week, not including our actual internship.
Finally, Loco Mag. Meeting once a week, class time varies, as well as the amount of time put into things outside of meeting times. This article, for example, will take me a bit to write. I’ll take a gander and say this class is about five hours minimum at least a week.
With classes out of the way, now onto jobs.
My first job is being a social media influencer for the school on ZeeMee. While I can work as many hours as I’d like, as a broke college student I need money, so that ends up being around seven hours a week.
Next is my at home job, working as a server in a restaurant. While I don’t work as much during the school year because I don’t have my car, I still end up working some weekends for around eight hours.
Finally, my internship.
Typically, I try to get about four hours a week. However, hours vary. On easy weeks I receive six hours of work, but on heavier weeks I get nine. Some weeks, I even get 12. However, for simplicity, I’ll say nine hours.
So that’s my work. Time to total it all up.
For my classes, the total hours are 29 for a week of work.
For my jobs, the total hours are 15.
For my internship, it’s nine hours.
Added all up – that’s 53 hours. Those hours don’t even include the time I spend in class. So yeah, I think all this might be why I’m exhausted.
