Loco Mag is seeking college-age writers, photographers, videographers, designers, and interviewers to contribute to our latest issue! For those who aren’t familiar with our work, Loco is a lifestyle and culture magazine always on the hunt for new articles, photo spreads, and fresh takes on student perspectives. We are not strictly a news publication or a creative writing publication. We want to hear from you! We want your stories in your voice and your words.
If you have worked in the restaurant industry, you are likely familiar with the term “getting 86’d”. For one reason or another, many restaurants have been forced to close their doors or stop serving a particular menu item. Perhaps there was a shortage of a crucial ingredient, or maybe a certain dish diminished in popularity. Nevertheless, there is always a reason behind such an alteration, and this is your opportunity to talk about what led to one of these changes.
This is not restricted to restaurants, either—we want to hear about anything in your life that has been erased from existence. Is your favorite hoodie out of stock? Have you had to throw away something that was important to you? Have you ever lost anything while you were on vacation? These are just a few of the many ways in which something may be 86’d and cease to exist in one’s life.
Need more inspiration? Here are some keywords to get you started: cancelled, restaurants, get dunked on, bye-bye, eating sh*t, Chick Hicks (from Cars), athletes who wear 86, numerology, get rekt, out of stock, hangry, numbers as language (69, 86, 420, etc.), 1986.
Our sections include Travel, Lifestyle, AV Room (Audio/Photo/Video), Entertainment, Mood, and Features. Features typically run around 1,500 words. Have more than that? Cool! If not, no worries. We’re an electronic publication so space is unlimited. We’ll accept anything from a 250-word photo spread to a 500-word interview to an hour-long podcast to a 2-minute video. Be creative, and tell your truth.
Submit your work by Sunday, September 21st, at 11:59pm. You can submit by clicking the “submissions” tab right below the featured slider on the homepage.
