Loco Mag is seeking college-age writers, photographers, videographers, designers, and interviewers to contribute to our latest issue! For those who aren’t familiar with our work, Loco is a lifestyle and culture magazine always on the hunt for new articles, photo spreads, and fresh takes on student perspectives. We are not strictly a news publication or a creative writing publication. We want to hear from you! We want your stories in your voice and your words.
Curiosity is an integral part of being human—it is only natural to want to learn more about why things work the way they do. There are a lot of mysteries in life, and part of the fun is understanding the methods behind the madness. From long-standing societal norms to questionable business models, there is a lot to unpack about the origins of modern society and why we collectively decided on our methods of doing things.
This is an open-ended issue, so we will accept a variety of pieces about what has ignited your curiosity. Have you ever wondered why certain countries drive on specific sides of the road? Have you ever wanted to know why your favorite TV show got canceled? Have you ever been curious about why you enjoy some foods more than others? If you have had any of these thoughts run through your head, this is a golden opportunity to delve into one of them.
Need more inspiration? Here are some keywords to get you started: over the top dramatics, “I have a question for God—WHY?!”, existentialism, philosophy, exes, how it’s made, curiosity, other questions, “because I said so,” kids asking questions, why axis/y-axis, questioning ideas/ideologies, *screaming*.
Our sections include Travel, Lifestyle, AV Room (Audio/Photo/Video), Entertainment, Mood, and Features. Features typically run around 1,500 words. Have more than that? Cool! If not, no worries. We’re an electronic publication so space is unlimited. We’ll accept anything from a 250-word photo spread to a 500-word interview to an hour-long podcast to a 2-minute video. Be creative, and tell your truth.
