For the issue “Type Shit,” I have decided to list some characters that I absolutely hate with every fiber of my being and why I think they’re shitty.
Nathan Shelly (Ted Lasso) –
I hate this disgustingly short man and the way he betrayed his entire team to work with a different club after his team had nothing but love for him too. He was on some bullshit like, “oh Ted only likes my ideas when they work out but when they don’t it’s my fault” like literally when has that happened ever. Not to mention the only reason he even turned out to be a coach in the first place was because of Ted. HE WAS THE FUCKING KIT BOY. He needs to know his place for real. And then they tried to redeem him and his whole team was like “we forgive you” like glad y’all forgive him but I could literally never.
Tommy Kinard (911) –
I hate this man mostly because he is ugly. Something about that square jaw line pisses me off. Other than that, his character is literally racist as hell. He refuses to talk to his Korean coworker until he literally has to be pulled out of a fire while unconscious by said coworker. He also makes no effort to welcome the only African American member of the firehouse when she starts and says she has “East Coast bitchiness” even though she’s from Los Angeles. On top of that, it is obvious that he was written for a female audience despite literally being an openly gay, male character, and gay men written solely for the female gaze is problematic in and of itself.
Bakugo Katsuki (My Hero Academia) –
A lot of people’s main arguments for why they like him is because he had a lot of character development over the seasons, and while that’s true, I simply do not care. He is so very annoying and he literally told the main character to jump off the roof 10 minutes into the first episode of the show. Everyone loves him and I literally cannot see why, he’s actually so fucking annoying I literally cannot.
Mike Wheeler (Stranger Things) –
I hate this lanky white boy with my whole being. I hate how the show took one of the best characters and turned him into a big nothing burger with extra nothing pickles. Not mentioning the queerbaiting in the show because this section would be 10 times longer than it needs to be, he is literally just a love interest for two characters, AND A SHITTY ONE AT THAT. He is a terrible boyfriend to Eleven and an even worse friend to Will. He went from caring only about his friend to not caring about him at all once a girl was introduced and then started treating said girl like shit once they got together. This guy went from being one of the most interesting characters to having the personality of a cardboard box.
Robot (Invincible) –
THIS GUY BRO. He’sactually so fucking weird. I actually liked his character at first and then the show introduced Monster Girl, a 22 year old woman in the body of a 13 year old girl, and thought it would be a fantastic idea to clone one of his team members and transfer his memories into a 14 year old clone so he could get with this grown woman in a child’s body, not to mention him changing his name to Rex to “honor his teammate.” OHH MY GOD. There is no way. I hate this clanker.
Jax (The Amazing Digital Circus) –
This whiny ass rabbit. He’s actually the corniest character in this show and it says a lot because the show itself is really corny. The way he tries so hard to be nonchalant but he’s the least nonchalant person ever is so annoying, especially when he said “you are my playthings” I had to pause the show and take a lap around my room. I was cringing so hard.
