While I appreciated the cold weather as a kid, if only because of potential snow days, my opinion has shifted drastically now. For a multitude of reasons, some personal, some not, I can’t stand the cold. I hate having to deal with it for months and would much rather deal with a hot summer day than a chilly winter evening. And I don’t even like summer!

I’ll admit a good part of it is dealing with my own dermatology issues. The winter cold causes my skin to dry up, which can get very uncomfortable. And sure, I do have lotion on my side, but I’m lazy and would rather not deal with it in the first place. And while the summer heat does mean I have to put on sunscreen, I can live with a sunburn more than I can with dry skin.

Even more frustrating is going to bed. Half the time I fall asleep, I’m feeling uncomfortable. Sometimes my blankets overwhelm me, and I’m feeling way too hot. But take some of them away, and I’m suddenly freezing. There’s no middle ground, and it’s frustrating for somebody who just wants to sleep. When it’s too hot, all I have to do is worry about one or no blankets, and I’ll be able to sleep fine enough.

But perhaps most frustrating is having to bundle up to face the cold. It’s pretty much a crapshoot when it comes to waking up every day. Sometimes, all I need is my leather coat. But sometimes I have to put on boots, gloves, a hat, and a scarf, in addition to my leather coat. And even then, I still feel beyond cold. It’s just irritating having to put everything on, and it’s even worse taking it off. Summer has the benefit of needing little to no layers. At most, an undershirt might be needed, but I’ll still make it out okay.

To say nothing of the snow making traffic a nightmare, the daytime being almost non-existent, and looking at gloomy landscapes of nature. While the winter is necessary, that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
