If Percy Jackson and Harry Potter dueled to the death, who would come out on top? This is a question that has divided entire fandoms and it is a question that people have struggled with for a very long time. There are a lot of people who think that Harry Potter would be the one to survive the deadly match. Other people think that it would be Percy Jackson who comes out on top. In order to properly answer this question, a deep dive on both characters is absolutely necessary.

Percy Jackson is a character written by an author named Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan has several series out, including Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which was his first series. His debut novel is called, “The Lightning Thief,” and it stars Percy Jackson. Percy Jackson is a troubled kid who struggles a lot in school because of his ADHD. However, it isn’t until later on that we find out he has ADHD because he’s wired for battle. He is wired for battle because he’s half blood – he is a demigod.

A demigod means that one of your parents is a god, while the other is human. It means that you are half-god and half-human. The trouble with godly parents is that they don’t always claim you right away. For example, Percy Jackson wasn’t claimed by his godly parent until a few days after he arrived at Camp-Half Blood after his twelfth birthday. Being a demigod is insanely dangerous because monsters are always chasing you. Camp-Half Blood exists in order to help protect all demi-gods; Camp Half-Blood is a refugee for all demigods.

When Percy is claimed, we find out that his father is Poseidon. Poseidon is the god of the sea. Being a half blood means that you also get insane powers. Percy inherited all powers that deal with the ocean and water. Over time, he comes to fully develop these powers. He develops them by going on quests, and training with other kids at camp. Monsters are always trying to kill him, which also helps him practice using his powers. By the time he’s sixteen, he’s fully come into his powers.

Harry Potter is a very different story. Harry Potter finds out that he’s a wizard, at a young age, and then he gets sent to Hogwarts, a school for wizards. At Hogwarts, Harry Potter learns everything there is to know about wizardry. He studies there with two of his friends. He learns all kinds of magic, including spells and potions. Also, he participates in a lot of deadly obstacles while he’s at school, and he’s overcome a lot of them – including a crazy guy that makes weird noises and is obsessed with him.

Harry Potter and Percy Jackson share a good amount of similarities. They both go through a hero’s journey. Both of them had battled with unimaginable demons and came out on top. Both of them exhibit extreme power in their own way. They both wear the weight of the world on their shoulders, sometimes for no reason. They also are extremely loyal to their best friends. They would do anything to save them. Not to mention, that they both come from pretty popular series. I understand why their fandoms would want to see them duel.

However, I do not think that it is wise to compare them when they come from vastly different worlds. Percy Jackson is half-god and half-human, while  Harry Potter is a wizard.

Percy has powers that come from gods, while Harry Potter has powers that come from a wand. It would be different if people were comparing Harry Potter to Alex Russo, where both characters have similar powers and come from similar worlds. Unfortunately, that is not the case. People are comparing Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, which I do not think is a fair comparison nor would it be a fair fight.

It would not be a fair fight for Harry Potter because Percy Jackson would easily come out on top. As I previously mentioned, Percy’s powers come from the gods themselves. He is able to summon earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes. He is able to control all aspects of water. Gods fear him. His power and his strength is like no other demigod. Percy is quite literally wired for battle and is always fighting monsters three times his size.

Meanwhile, Harry Potter’s power comes from a wooden stick. A stick that is very easily breakable. Not to mention, Harry Potter is not a very good wizard. Harry Potter only knows how to do one spell, but he does get points for that because it is a very hard spell to learn. The spell is called  Expelliarmus.  However, that does not take away from the fact that it is still the only spell he knows. I do not deny Harry Potter has made some pretty amazing accomplishments for a wizard his age. All I’m saying is that he pales in comparison to Percy Jackson.

As I said, this fight would not be fair. This comparison is practically useless. While they share some similarities, they have completely different powers and backgrounds. Harry Potter versus Percy Jackson has always been a duel that just does not make sense to me and never will.
