Loco Mag is seeking college age writers, photographers, videographers, designers, and interviewers to contribute to our latest issue! Loco is a lifestyle and culture magazine always on the hunt for new articles, photospreads, and fresh takes on student perspectives. We’re not strictly a news publication, nor are we a creative writing publication. We want to hear your voice and read real life, tangible stories.

Our upcoming issue will be called Roses Are Red. With this one, we may have truly lost it.

At the Loco Mag brainstorming meeting for February’s theme, our discussion of Valentine’s Day soon warped into endless variations of the classic love poem: “The rose is red. The violet’s blue. Sugar is sweet. And so are you.”

Here’s one gem (or rose?): “Roses are red, my dreams are dead.”

Tough to top that one when it gets right to the heart of the human experience. Before you check your calendar wondering if it’s April 1st, let’s just talk about this for a second.

In this issue, we’re issuing you a challenge.

Write about any topic. No need to gaze out the window as you ponder the meaning behind Loco Mag’s newest theme. No longer are you condemned to countless hours spent tailoring your article to it. No more!

Your Sacred Task: The title of your piece has to complete the rhyme.

For example, in the Roses Are Red theme, the following titles might apply:

  • My Dreams Are Dead
  • Here Are Some Guys Named Fred
  • A Comprehensive Ranking of Beds

So have at it. Be creative. Write something that allows you to laugh quietly to yourself as you type away in an empty, silent room.

Our sections include Features, Travel, Lifestyle, Entertainment, and the A/V Room (podcasts, videos, etc). Features typically run around 1,500 words. Have more than that? Cool! If not, no worries. We’re an electronic publication so space is unlimited. We’ll accept anything from a 250 word photospread to a 500 word interview to an hour long podcast to a 2-minute video. If nothing, follow this phrase: be creative, be real.
