An inky tradition on the (un)luckiest day of the year
I struggled to get myself out of bed the morning I promised myself I go without makeup to write this article. It is already difficult enough to come to grips with my face as I apply makeup. I crowned the day as No Makeup Monday and left my house bare-faced and miserable.
Making the transition to natural hair can be an empowering expression of self-love and acceptance. But there is another side to this movement that has some people steering clear.
Identity. Who are you? What do you define yourself as? We search and strip ourselves down to find the answers to these major questions. Once we have figured who we are, soul bared and naked, we have to figure out an appropriate way to express this out loud. While this can be done in several different ways my favorite examples are fashion mavens— girls and guys who dress not just for necessity, but for art, for style, and for luxury.
