As a person who enjoys the consumption of food, I will say that fast food is one of my more favorite meals to eat,  Whether it be McDonalds, Taco Bell or Arbys. Anytime I’m feeling hungry, I may decide to spend my money on these snacks. They’re definitely a comfort food for me. I can’t think of any fast food joint where I don’t enjoy or like the food that they serve. I remember all the fond times spent at these establishments, either with my friends and family, just eating and talking about different things. Between the good experiences and semi-good food, I would say that fast food has been a sort of gift. But, this is where the problems come in. Because while I do enjoy fast food, I get nothing out of it in any shape or form. I find it to be good, when in reality, it’s terrible.

Fast food, to start off with, has no nutritional value. Fast food is mass-produced and made to be served to a bunch of people really quick. So unlike home cooked meals or foods that come from more dignified restaurants where you can get a nutritional dish, you are served the lowest of low grade comestibles.  Many fast foods contain a lot of calories and fats, specifically trans fats, which can lead to heart problems and high cholesterol. Many of the sodas and drinks they have contain a lot of sugar., whichcan lead to weight gain. In additon, a lot of the foods contain high amounts of sodium.

When eating fast food, you risk the chance of possibly eating some bad stuff.  You could end up eating a bad piece of chicken or stale piece of meat, but you could also end up getting sick, whetherit be in the short term like feeling nauseous or in the long term like heart disease or diabetes. If you happen to be the most unlucky person in the world, you could potentially end up with some foodborne illness or parasite. Luckily this rarely seems to be the case.

Fast food also costs a lot of money depending on what you spend or where you live. I like to go big with my meals, so sometimes the amount of spending can be anywhere from 10 to 15 dollars. So if you are treating a bunch of different people to a meal, you can expect to lose some hard earned cash.

The restaurants themselves are also kind of bad. Some restaurants aren’t the most clean and sometimes you end up eating at a really dirty table. These establishments also have some controversial business practices that people may find not very tasteful, like how and where the food is sourced, the restaurants treatment of employees, or the opinions of certain establishment owners. Also, a lot of fast food places now a days are starting to look a lot more like Starbucks than fast food eateries. For me, the new, cleanier looks are nice, but it kinda loses its aesthetics as a whole. Call me a hypocrite for complaining about the poor hygiene of a restaurant, but also complain about how the new remodeled restaurants look to sanitary and welcoming.

So yes, barring many of the examples I have put out their such as the poor nutrition of the food, the expensive food items and the morality of some restaurants, I should hate fast food restaurants like many people do. However, in the end, I still love them. Because, I for some twisted reason like to eat their food. People can tell me that it’s bad, but I follow my heart, even  if it is riddled with cholesterol from all the french fries. As long as they don’t go defunct (which would almost be impossible) or if the particular location I visit doesn’t burn to the ground, I will be happy to return to one of these places, walk up to the counter and order up some mass produced, bottom of the barrel, non nutritional grub. While also stacking up some extra napkins and sauces for use at home. Thanks for nothing (but something) fast food.
