Over the summer, I acquired an espresso machine with a built in milk steamer. To say the least, it’s an upgrade from my French Press coffee. I’ve been starting my mornings with lattes and cappuccinos and mornings don’t seem so bleak.

In honor of Coffee + Paste, I decided to step it up and try my hand at latte art. It went… well, you’ll see.

I started simple and my first attempt was to create a foam heart on top my espresso.

At least you can tell what it is, right?

My second try was much more unsuccessful. It was meant to be a tulip. It turned out to look more like a blob.

The only way that looks like a flower is if you closed your eyes. It’s the thought that counts?

A little disheartened by the last try, I decided to finish off with something easy. I wanted a simple smiley face to look back at me from my mug. That would be doable, right?

Wrong.

I swear it looked somewhat like a face when I first poured… it just disappeared before I could grab my phone.

So, as you can see, I’m really good at latte art and have found my true passion. Does anyone need a new barista?
