Admittedly, when one of our editors Paulie brought up the idea of Racecar Backwards as a theme, I was confused. Most of us were, and he backpedaled quickly. That was a couple of months ago, but the idea stuck, and for this issue we decided to throw caution to the wind and just do it: a palindrome issue. That’s why you may notice that a few of our titles are a little stranger than usual – several of them are palindromes.

I don’t know who assembles lists of palindromes, but thank God for them, because we scoured those lists, deriving our inspiration from odd sentences and phrases that are spelled the same backwards and forwards. Callie and Julia both took ‘Dammit I’m Mad’ in different directions, for example. Lashanna wrote about Benjamin Button, who was born an old man (please don’t ask me for any details because I don’t want to think about it). Lana jumps backwards in time visiting Siena, Italy. Plus, Audrey made you a theme-inspired playlist, so you can listen while you read!
