When I was a kid, I made it my personal mission to keep the younger siblings in line. I’m the oldest, and tattling kind of comes with the territory. My parents used to make a joke of it.
“Here comes The Leah Report,” they’d say, as I’d flee from my sister post-fight, demanding justice.
Sometimes my mom would even recite parenting quotes to silence my complaints:
“The truth is that parents are not really interested in justice. They just want quiet.”
Today, this quote bugs me even more than it did then. Because the quotee is Bill Cosby. Yes, the man who was officially found guilty of sexual assault. The man who catfished America into thinking he was a wholesome, loveable dad. The man who lied.
Our latest Loco issue touches on these topics. Paulie and Austin discuss sex scandals on their ForLoco podcast. Shubhechha gives us a peek into Indian dating culture and deceits associated with it. And Esley tells a story about attending a cult meeting disguised as a meditation gathering. Sex. Lies. Catfish.
Though you’ll surely get a laugh from our more lighthearted pieces, I encourage you to take a more somber moment and think about how relevant our theme is to current events. Seek justice. Seek truth. Don’t settle for quiet.
