The days of hunting and gathering food in a supermarket, then lugging it home to cook are long gone. We have evolved, now the food comes to us! There are unlimited possibilities, at the push of a button we can have anything we want; from cheeseburgers to a rack of lamb, desserts and late-night snacks included. Apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and GoPuff make our life too easy, not to mention they are responsible for most of those added pounds during the pandemic. Since we are adapting to some form of “normalcy,” the 2021 version for now, by trying to get back to a routine which includes healthier eating habits we are making better choices. Instead of opting for the burger and fries, we want home cooked meals that include protein, healthy carbs and yes, veggies! We necessarily do not want to do the cooking but if we had to, EVERYTHING we need can be delivered to us in a neat package with simple instructions and it is portion controlled, a bonus to those of us who never read serving sizes on labels. Companies such as Blue Apron, HelloFresh, Home Chef, Dinnerly, Daily Harvest and the list goes on, can make your life simple and easy. I have not tried these delivery companies, but I do want to try HelloFresh and Daily Harvest.
However, I have ordered from Amazon,- yes Amazon delivers groceries from Whole Foods Market- and they also have a line of ready-made single serve dinners as well as family style kits which need to be prepared called “Amazon Kitchen ”. My family and I live by these meals, because they are fresh and there are a variety of dishes to choose from.
One of our favorites is the turkey meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans dinner, heat for two and a half minutes and ENJOY! These meals come in handy especially during the week when life is so hectic between school and work, there is little to no time to cook every night, but we still get to enjoy healthy meals. These services are lifesavers!
So yes, home cooked meals do not have to be cooked at your home. If they are hot and complete with some kind of greenery (yes parsley counts) then it is a meal. In today’s world any and everything is attainable through delivery services. I recently saw a TikTok where a DoorDasher delivered a fifty-five-inch flat screen television to a customer. Look how far we have come, some might call it laziness (my dad!), but I like to think of it as being resourceful and convenient, so why not take advantage of these food delivery services. It feels like having your very own shopper (that remembers to get EVERYTHING on your list) or a personal chef at your fingertips. So, if you are looking to take a break from oil-stained bags, cold fries with water down soft drinks, give these meal delivery services a try, you will not be disappointed.
