Ever since childhood I dreamed about the day I would turn 21 years old and be considered an adult. Now that I am 21 years old I wish I could go back. Because now as an adult I have responsibilities like self-care, financial management, and contributing to society. Also now going into my senior year I also have to worry about thesis on top of that.

When talking to some adults I asked them for advice about being an adult. All of these quotes are anonymous.

“I’m gonna tell you what I tell my kids. You need to figure out life as you go and you’re gonna make mistakes but as a parent your parents are always there to help.”

“Don’t let your partner make you give up your dream.”

“Make sure you are somewhat financially stable before you start making big decisions like starting a family or buying a house.”

“Listen to me very closely, no one cares about your decisions so live your life before you settle down because I guarantee it will be a lot more fun traveling the world and acting like an idiot when you’re in your 20s then when you’re in your 50s and have more responsibilities.”

“I hate doing laundry and cleaning my house so I hire someone to do it for me.”

“I love my family, but needing to budget for us can be annoying every week especially when an unexpected expense comes up. But I definitely recommend budgeting because it does help save money and cut out unnecessary expenses.”

“Take as much help as you can from your parents before you need to be responsible for yourself and everything related to being by yourself.”

“If you’re in college, stay in college and do good. If you’re not in college that’s also fine. But I would recommend going to college, because not having a degree has affected me not always getting the job or needing to work jobs that pay bare minimum and just scrapping by.”

“Don’t marry someone just because you want to be married because it might end in divorce and your kids have two houses.”

“Make sure you pay your taxes because that can end bad if you don’t.”

“Honestly, get a dog cause they are the best.”

Everyone always has advice to give especially as you grow up and become an adult. Just remember to listen but you don’t always need to follow exactly what people say. You also don’t need to have your whole life figured out because not everything will go the way you want.
