Nowadays, social media is questionable activity especially during the 21st century.  To me, social media is not at all social, so what exactly is it?  Social media stirs up controversy in today’s society, even with the President of the United States, with argumentative or bullish type posts on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.  For me, social media is not a priority in helping with socializing or to be able to engage with important influential people world-wide. I have strong opinions with social media because social networking doesn’t necessarily connect you with good people. It actually sometimes can do the opposite.  With social media; networking, alertness has to be on a high level, because people are not always what they seem in person. The majority of the time, you go by a picture with a detailed profile.

To some people, not engaging in most social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, it sometimes seems weird.  Yes, it’s considered normal being involved with social networking, but I feel the traditional way, face to face, is most effective socially.  In addition, cyberbullying can be a common occurrence on social media, particularly on Facebook. Plus, social media can be a negative activity for most people because it gives them“stress, addiction, depression and anxiety.” (www.theconversation.com).

According to the website www.theconversation.com, those who spend less time on electronic devices spend more time with loved ones or others in general during their daily lives.  Furthermore, for some reason, people switching off social media feel they’re always missing out on something important. People generally should consider switching off social media or networking because they eventually would find a new activity enjoying that’s more relaxing as well.    Electronic devices are basically huge distractions for people, whether they’re walking, driving or watching a movie. With electronic devices, there need to be rules set for young people made by adults, and censorship to block inappropriate images. I feel sometimes that social media causes much division with American people and people world-wide as well.
