I embarked on this work through an exploration of new methods (for me) in painting and sculpture, namely the use of a mix of canvas, plaster, concrete, acrylic, and enamel; through those explorations, I created pieces that took on the role of gestural elements of photographic still lifes.

    My name is Joshua Tarplin and I am originally from Falls Church, Virginia, which is a suburb of Washington, D.C. Currently, I am studying Studio Art and the History of Art at Yale University.
