When the birds are chirping, the sun is shining through the window, and my alarm rings in the morning, my favorite item to eat is waffles. But not just any waffle, Eggo waffles. Yes, that’s right. I, a 22 year old, absolutely love to enjoy Eggos. It does not matter if it is eight in the morning, one in the afternoon, or midnight. I can typically be caught wielding an Eggo in both hands. However, my Eggos and I hit quite a dilemma a few weeks ago. I always thought one can never have enough Eggos, but I may have been wrong.

As a student in college, I’m always looking for a good deal. And as a college student who spends every weekend in their hometown, if I can save a dollar, I will. This past semester I’ve been having to buy groceries for both school and home. I thought nothing of it, since I don’t need many groceries for school, and at home there’s two people splitting the bill. Well, when I took my first trip to the grocery store at college after winter break, I realized groceries are expensive. And I’m not talking about name brand items, literally every item has doubled in price.

On the topic of groceries being expensive, especially as a college student, I think it’s important to take a second to acknowledge just how expensive things are. I went to buy a two liter of soda the other day (I’m not a huge coffee drinker, so caffeine equals soda for me) and I was appalled at the price increase. I used to pay maybe $1.50 for one, and now it’s almost $3.00… That may not sound like a lot, but that price doubled. I can only work some many hours while in college. Oh and apartment shopping, as a soon to be graduate, forget about it. Rent is even worse. At this rate, I’ll be living with roommates my entire life.

Regardless, I can’t not buy something if I don’t love it. Hence, some items just need to be splurged on. My Eggos are one of those items. I try to space out my grocery shopping, so I’m not going every week, and I do my best to avoid taking multiple trips to the grocery store. I always make a list and stick to it, while purchasing as much as I can when it is on sale. Well, two grocery trips ago I was trying to find easy to make items, and what better item than Eggos! You can put them in the toaster, air fryer, or toaster oven. You can add any topping, from fruit to butter. So I put just a single box in my shopping cart, collected everything else I needed, and zoomed back to campus.

Well, my most recent grocery trip was quite an adventure. I made sure I created a list of items I needed, and took a quick inventory of what I had at home to avoid purchasing too much of anything. Once that was completed, I gathered my reusable bags, and headed off to the store. I love grocery shopping because I have the ability to choose anything and everything, it’s full freedom! Hence, where things get a bit tricky. I acquired all my items on the list and was heading for the checkout line… when I received a phone call. I’m not the greatest at checking out while on the phone and I’m also known for “walking and talking”.

Moreover, instead of checking out I wandered around the store while on the phone. I ended up putting a quart of ice cream, four types of snacks, another case of soda, and two boxes of Eggos in the cart. Unfortunately, shopping on the phone hinders my ability to really think through what it is I’m doing. Anyway, I hopped off the phone finally, got my receipt, and raced back to campus. Upon lugging all my groceries in the door, I was faced with my roommate in the freezer which lended for a straight view of an unopened box of Eggos. I questioned for a minute if they were mine or not, but I was almost certain if they were mine, they’d be open and half empty.

As my college roomies arrived at the apartment, I stopped and asked “Are those your Eggos in the freezer?”. My first roommate wasn’t sure whose they were so she opted not to eat them. But my other roommate, when asked, noted that she had previously bought Eggos, but finished the box a while ago. She actually said “Those in there now, they’re yours you got two weeks ago.” I was dumbfounded and embarrassed at the fact I went through my food inventory and still managed to mess up. Long story short, I now have three boxes of Eggos and only a week left of college. Needless to say, my Eggos will be for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
