Many different cultures use birds as symbols in their religions and stories they tell. There are many more “meanings” of seeing certain birds than most of us are familiar with. Whether it is in your dreams or in real life, use this as a guide for what it means when a bird appears to your or crosses your path.

Often seen as a loved one who has passed and is looking over you, cardinals can be a comforting bird to see outside your window.

Seeing other birds outside your window, like a hummingbird, can mean something more inspiring. Native Americans associated their quick movement with dancing and believe they symbolize that you can do anything. They are also granting joy and encouragement.

If a turtledove flies into your house, that is believed to be a bad omen.

Storks (as most of us know from childhood stories) often symbolize birth, as well as rebirth and motherhood. Storks can be seen as an omen of fertility for young women.

Peacocks are symbols of success. They were sacred birds of the Greek Goddess Hera. Their bold colors and large fan of feathers make them appear to have it all.

Other symbols of birds can be about what they do and not necessarily the kind of bird involved. For instance, when a bird hits your car window or flies into a window, it symbolizes that there will be an upcoming obstacle in your life (usually big). Some cultures see this as a sign to buckle down before the road gets tough. Another example would be if a bird appeared to be following you, it is a guardian. Keep an eye out for birds around you and what they are doing. Comment to tell us if you have ever experienced any weird bird phenomena!
