I might receive hate comments for this, but this needs to be said: Paris was one of the most disappointing cities I’ve traveled to.

Sure, the Eiffel tower commands the skies and the city’s collection of art is astounding. Still, every place I visited seemed superficial to me. I realize now that these iconic landmarks are made to look wonderful in our Instagram photos and designed to be tourist friendly. The experience didn’t feel authentic, because it wasn’t authentic.

On my second trip to Paris, I wandered around a cemetery known to be the final resting places of intellectuals like Chopin, Oscar Wilde, and Jim Morrison. In my blog post on Wanderlust Notes I wrote about meeting a genuine, thought-provoking Paris for the first time in a cemetery filled with art and mystery.
