Are midterms stressing you out? Maybe your personal life is just becoming too stressful and you don’t have any time to practice self care. Too many sources of stress without giving yourself time to relax can lead to spiraling. Finding time for self care can be difficult, so here are a few simple and inexpensive ways to destress this Fall.
- Make yourself a cup of tea, cocoa, or coffee and take 15 minutes to enjoy the sun. Whether it’s before you head off to work or after you have finished class, setting a few minutes aside for yourself with a warm drink can be calming.
- Don’t have any free time between an internship and homework? Wake up 30 minutes early to do some simple yoga to get you ready to take on whatever you are facing. Here is a morning yoga video for beginners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYvkn80ppts
- Miss walking from class to class in the warm sunlight? SO DOES YOUR BODY! Try taking Vitamin D supplements (especially if you deal with seasonal depression). As the sun is out less and less and you are stuck in class or at work more and more, your body is not getting all of the vitamin D it deserves. (Make sure the supplement is primarily D3. Walmart and Amazon have pretty low prices!)
- Snuggling up with friends in sweats and fuzzy blankets while binge watching shows is great this time of year! Try convincing them to stay in and grab a bottle of wine when you finally have a free night. You’ll save money from not going out and you can finally give your brain the well-deserved break that it needs.
- Friends are always good to have around. If they don’t have time for Netflix, get some friends together to cook a “family” dinner. It can help if you are feeling homesick and haven’t seen family in a while. Sometimes all you need is a home-cooked meal. Cooking can be more fun with friends AND cost less if everyone brings an ingredient! Make sure someone is still in charge of bringing the wine……
Do whatever helps you relax as the weather gets colder. It’s important to remember that we need to take care of ourselves! Leave a comment below sharing what helps you unwind this time of year.
