In this world we live in it is important to have balance. What I mean is that you must learn to balance being a nice person and at times being an asshole. I know it seems wrong that at times you should be an asshole but it’s the truth. This is a lesson I have recently learned and I didn’t truly realize this until I came to college. It is perfectly fine to be nice to others but at some point being too nice can get yourself hurt. You must stick up for yourself and not let other people walk over you. Respect yourself and say no to people at times if they ask for a favor. I call this the 50/50 rule. Long story short the 50/50 rule is when you need to balance being a good person while also being an asshole.
This rule can be put towards many different things you do in your life. In the link below there is a podcast I did with my buddy Mario. We talk about the importance of this rule and how it should be put into your everyday life. We specifically talk about the importance of balance when you are a student. Going into college you are always told that you must lock in and only focus on work to prepare yourself for the future. Now this is true but it can be draining if you simply only worry about school work. Go out with your friends, party, go to events, and just have fun with your life. Having fun is good for your mental health and can help you from burning yourself out with school work. Most people think it isn’t necessary to have fun when you’re in college but you 100% should.
The idea of having the 50/50 balance is extremely important to implement into your everyday life. Without this rule I truly believe your life becomes more complicated than you could ever imagine. The idea of this rule can easily be used in many different scenarios in life since everyone has their own lifestyle.
