Loco Mag is seeking college-age writers, photographers, videographers, designers, and interviewers to contribute to our latest issue! Loco is a lifestyle and culture magazine always on the hunt for new articles, photo spreads, and fresh takes on student perspectives. We are not strictly a news publication or a creative writing publication. We want to hear from you. We want your stories in your voice and your words.
Welcome to the 75th Loco Mag issue: Quarter Quell. May the odds be ever in your favor. Whether you get the reference or not (Did you read our last issue, “I Don’t Get the Reference”? No? Bummer.), we invite you to submit all of your best creations to this upcoming issue.
Feel free to dive deep into this one, or not! We’ll appreciate your in-depth analysis of the Josh Hutcherson meme just as much as a piece exploring how to quell your fears about the future. Maybe you’d like to argue why quarters shouldn’t exist, or defend what you believe to be the best first quarter in sporting event history. Heck, you could even challenge yourself to take a photo every 25 minutes for a day and give us a photo series about it. Whatever floats your boat.
Need more inspiration? Here are some keywords to get you started: murder, capitalism, fandoms, adaptations, money (cents), special edition, sports, quell (feelings, hunger, sadness, etc.), rebellion, food insecurity, anniversary, time, fashion, oppression, war, snow, weather, birds, overwhelm, contests, silence, calm, josh hutcherson, memes.
Our sections include Travel, Lifestyle, AV Room (Audio/Photo/Video), Entertainment, Mood, and Features. Regular articles usually run upwards of 500 words. Features typically run around 1,500 words. Have more than that? Cool! If not, no worries. We’re an electronic publication so space is unlimited. We’ll accept anything from a 250-word photo spread to a 500-word interview to an hour-long podcast to a 2-minute video. Be creative, and tell your truth.
Submit your work by Sunday, February 11th at 11:59 pm. You can submit by clicking the “submissions” tab right below the featured slider on the homepage.
