The pandemic has affected us all, and made some of us feel sort of… stuck. At Loco Mag, we’ve been thinking about all the changes that have happened, a new presidential administration, a new year, vaccines that will hopefully help the country begin to heal from the havoc wreaked by Covid-19. We are hoping that we will be able to embrace the changes as new beginnings and begin to move forwards… and hope is a four letter word.

With all this in mind, we are excited to release Issue #55 “Moving Four-Words”! The staff has spent some time reflecting on how maybe they’ve changed or realized things about themselves through quarantine, like in Danita’s article “SELF: Identity in Isolation” and Rikki’s piece “ENBY: Reflection on Coming Out as Non-Binary During the Pandemic”.

For some fun internet-trend related reads, check out Julie’s “BEER” piece, where she describes her first experience trying the shower beer trend. In Anthony’s “The Simp Series” he explores what the word simp actually means and its implications for masculinity. Belle writes “Kins: The Return of a Cursed Trend” where she discusses the kins trend, its origins and what it is now.

We are also celebrating Black History Month here at Loco Mag. Check out Yasmeen’s piece “Rise: Black Sands Entertainment Calls For Change In Biased Film Production” which talks about Black Sands Entertainment, and all the great work they are doing to create diversely cast movies. Rikki recommends some of their favorite books that are perfect to read in celebration of Black History Month in their video “BOOK: Black History Month Reading Recommendations”.

This is a full issue with a great variety of content. We hope you enjoy “Moving Four-Words” and maybe you’ll begin to feel a little hopeful too.
