“New year, new me!” That’s a message boasted by many on January 1st. While there’s nothing wrong with creating a list of New Year’s resolutions, there is something wrong with pressuring people into making one. Self-improvement is important- we all have things to work on that will help us better ourselves. Don’t feel pressured to start that process at the beginning of the year! You can change your lifestyle or habits whenever you feel ready to do so. It takes 66 days to form a lifestyle and those 66 days can happen at any point during the year. Most people give up their resolutions before February, so don’t sweat it! I think you’re more likely to stick to change that you decide to commit to on your own time, rather than one that society pressures you into.

If you are looking to make a resolution for the new year, here’s a list of the most common resolutions that people make:

  1. Save money
  2. Eat healthier
  3. Exercise more/ get in shape
  4. Learn a new skill
  5. Make time for self-care
  6. Decrease screen time
  7. Spend more time with your family and friends
  8. Quit smoking
  9. Get a new job
  10. Travel more
  11. Learn a new language
  12. Get more sleep
  13. Volunteer/ donate to charity organizations
  14. Do something on your bucket list
  15. Stop procrastinating

Remember to support and encourage people in your life who are trying to break or form a habit, no matter what time of year it is.
