Welcome to Kan’t Spell, today I am going to be rating witches and wizards. Based on what scale you might ask? Not even I know the answer to that question, so let’s get right into the judging.
[Harry Potter, from the Harry Potter series, Imagine from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2008)]
5/10. You lose points for being created by J.K. Rowling and her issues seeping through the character. Harry is a mixed bag wizard who is good at two spells rather than knowing a lot. He has also used 2/3 of the unforgivable curses which is pretty awesome of him. His biggest feats, however, are caused by magical wizard world rules rather than his own skill—like his mother’s protection that made him the only wizard to survive the killing curse, and the Elder Wand rules being the reason Voldemort lost the war.
[Alex Russo, from Wizards of Waverly Place, 2007]
11/10. Alex Russo is a ten out of 10 wizard and I will not hear otherwise. She deserved to become the family wizard. She has the most practical understanding of their powers, has the most experience of how their magic worked, and involves herself into the magical world the most. Sure she is a little selfish with her powers, but she uses them practically and realistically, if given the chance, who wouldn’t save some time and use magic to solve the issues you have daily? I know that I would.
[Sabrina Spellman, from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, 2018]
8/10. For starters her name is alliteration, that is awesome. It’s just the comic book way. Her cat’s name is also Salem which is such a good name as well. Honestly I forget most of what happened in the show but I think she screwed over Satan?? And stopped the four horsemen of the apocalypse, so how bad can she be. Full endorsement to Sabrina.
[Nathan Byrne, from Half Bad; The Bastard son and the Devil Himself, 2022]
6/10. I watched a show with him a week ago, it was a really good show but this man does no magic. He’s a blood witch so he has like broken healing abilities and gets mad easily but he doesn’t gain his special powers at all. He gets bonus points for being a male witch. Wait this means I need to give Alex Russo points for being a female wizard. Her rating has now been amended to 11/10 instead of 10/10.
[Huntress Wizard, from Adventure Time, 2010]
9/10. Magical plant wizard who can control, grow, and manipulate plants / nature, including traveling through plants. That is an awesome ability. She also gains an additional point for being an archer, I love archers. I’m biased and I’m the one rating these characters. Fight me.
[Luz Noceda, from The Owl House, 2020 ]
7/10. Luz brought back an ancient way for humans to perform magic in a completely new realm. That is such a strong feat to accomplish. She also fools the evil Emperor and gets the upper hand on him a few times, that’s sick. The only thing is she rarely uses her magic outside of major plot reasons, and doesn’t fight a lot to demonstrate mastery of ability. With that being said, I like her a lot.
[Spider-Man, from Marvel Comics, Image from Spectacular Spider-Man (2008)]
1/10. Not a wizard? Most of the time? Okay there’s one instance and an adaptation of Sorcerer Supreme Spider-Man which makes him sometimes a wizard somewhere. But he’s Spider-Man. Ten out of ten in my heart.
[Joel Miller, from The Last of Us, Image from The Last of Us Part II (2020)]
0/10. Just not a wizard. He’s a regular human who enjoys golfing.
