‘Tis the season for seasonal depression! As the temperature drops and end-of-semester stress increases, I become less and less motivated to make meals for myself. And though I’m a so-called Broke Bitch, I decided to try 4 delivery services (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Postmates) for all of my depression meal needs.
Breakfast: First Watch (1423 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001)
To fuel my day full of Zoom meetings and homework, I ordered a brunch staple- avocado toast via DoorDash. Served on thick-cut multigrain bread with cage-free eggs, smashed avocado, lemon juice, and sea salt, this was a tasty, fancy, and filling way to kickstart the morning. It set me back $18.99 in total.
Snack: The Night Kitchen Bakery (7725 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118)
My roommate and I were craving a post-breakfast sugar high and Uber Eats had my back. We received a flourless chocolate cupcake, a gluten-free almond macaroon, and a s’mores bar that hit the spot as we hit a midday lull. Though I had to spend $16.00 (AKA nearly half a tank of gas) for this, it was well worth it.
Lunch/Dinner: Snap Custom Pizza (1621 The Fairway, Jenkintown, PA 19046)
Depressives know that lunch and dinner are one in the same. I ordered the Kennett Square pizza with gluten-free crust, which had herb butter, mushrooms, arugula, mozzarella cheese, goat cheese, and truffle oil. Though it took nearly an hour and a half to arrive via Grubhub, it SLAPPED. After the delivery fiasco, I was refunded some of the fees and spent $17.50 for this boujee pizza.
Dessert: Dreams Ice Cream Factory (33 East Glenside Avenue, Glenside, PA 19038)
I’d never used Postmates, but better late than never after hours of working on graduate school applications. I ordered one scoop of Salted Caramel and another of Cookie Monster, which arrived (unmelted) in a styrofoam dish. For $11.58, this combo momentarily made me forget about the hellscape that is 2020.
When all was said and done, I spent $64.07 for all of my depression meals and snacks. First Watch and DoorDash come out on top in my book because the meal was *chef’s kiss* and their delivery driver was the most friendly and efficient.
