During this holiday season, it may be tempting to get something wild and out of the ordinary for that special someone or person you don’t know what to get. The following is a list of things you should definitely stay away from, unless you’re willing to accept the consequences, possibly including the ending of some friendships.

Our Not-So-Great Gifts:

  1. Smittens

  • Smittens are the original name, but couples mittens have taken off on the internet.
  • The original Smittens have differing reviews, some people said that the fabric was too thin and not made to size. A constant complaint has been that $35 for a mitten set is too expensive. I have to agree on that case.

  • The good thing about the internet is that there are so many other options!
  • I love Etsy for gifts that support actual artists and not a monolith like Amazon. Often the quality and look is so much better and you enjoy the product much more.
  • These ones got great reviews, with people saying they are warm and soft. Plus you can tell that they are popular… they also look much better and cuter than the amazon ones.

  • These are a cheaper option, and the shop has also gotten good reviews.
  • While this product may be too expensive for your online tastes, a cute alternative would be making them yourself. That adds a personal touch and probably costs a lot less.
  1. Full Body Sweaters

  • This one is my favorite, but unfortunately it’s discontinued. If you have a skilled knitter though, this is still a possibility.
  • This gem however, is not discontinued! Rejoice! Today describes this sweater (?) perfectly saying “Is it a dress? A scarf? A giant tube sock? Who cares, it’s perfect”
  • This sock/sweater magicalness costs about $280 off the Dukyana site, but many people seem to enjoy paying so much to restrict arm movement. Reviewers say it sheds, but it’s warm and you get looked at funny so it’s worth it? Alrighty then.
  • Apparently, Mohair is also the “softest goddamned fabric on the planet”, so that could be a consideration for you too.
  • Of course, there are the much more practical sweaters that allow movement like this one from saks fifth avenue:

  • If you ask me though, stick to the American Eagle sweaters for your girlfriend this winter, unless she’s got a crazy sense of humor, lots of space in her closet, and you have a large budget (so a no from me)
  1. Gold Plated Slinky?

  1. Pop Sockets are always a good bet…

  • Especially if they are crystal coated? And you need an investment gift? This popsocket is a whopping $50.
  • I recommend getting a free one from your bank.

  1. Okay so the last two were definitely a joke, who are we kidding this whole article is a joke. Don’t buy any of these things for gifts for Christmas. If you’re looking to play a joke, get a poop scented candle or this yodeling pickle from Walmart that only costs $15.

  1. As one final joke, check out these dog purses that are 100% real (I’m serious)
